Something new for Photographers:

For the past two years, Don O’Connor has invented and perfected a new way to display your photography, and create a novel way for you to market your work.   I will take any of your photos, and display them inside a 4” glass Christmas Ornament!

But these are not just for Christmas! We can use any photo, a home, for example. Use the ornament as a gift to present as a housewarming, or a “Closing Gift” for a real estate agent.

Do you do wedding photography? Here is a one-of-a-kind way to give a gift to the Bride and Groom as a “Thank You” for their photography business. Inside the ornament is your photo of the wedding, and the back of the photo can carry any message you want!

Unlimited possibilities: baby’s first haircut, a photo of baby and a lock of hair attached to back of photo inside the glass. Pictures of family, pets, vacation, prized toy (motorcycle/boat/airplane) you name it!

Here are samples. Don can visit you at your studio to show samples and discuss prices. Don’t wait until Christmas to order. These take time to produce. Order now! Info at  donrealtor@roadrunner.com

Here are two examples: above  is the Smith Covered Bridge at Plymouth, NH.

PAGE 7

Above is the historic 1903 Bandstand on the Plymouth Town Common. Can make this from any photo you have taken, or you can suggest this to your clients, then take their family portrait now, to include inside an ornament for Christmas, 2007.   A single family may order 6 to 8 of these as family Christmas gifts. Do you have a business customer having a special event this year? Photo the event, give them this photo-ornament in the 2007 Holiday Season. School photography? An entire class can be showcased here!

May 15, 2007  The following photos have been taken in the past, in April, May and June.  They are intended to give you ideas on the progression of flowering trees and plants as spring progresses.  They are organized by date for your convenience.  In particular, May is NH Lilac Photo Contest Month for the State of New Hampshire.  As this message is posted, May 4, lilacs are just starting to bud on the Plymouth Town Common.  Have your camera ready, and early May (now) is a great time to begin scouting out a scene to take a prize winning photo: (Update May 15... lilacs are nearing full bloom...  get your photos THIS WEEK! See photo # 470 below.   Another update May 29 07.. this is about your last chance to get lilac photos for 2007..  I was at the boat launch ramp at Lake Winnipesaukee at Meredith, NH, yesterday, May 28, 2007.  There is a splendid lilac there in full bloom...  get there right away for a shot of that one!)  Here in the Lakes Region of NH, lilacs flower from mid to late May.    Here's a tip:  there is a small covered bridge where Little Squam Lake flows out into a river, at Ashland, NH, near the Ashland town beach.  Check both ends of that bridge for a chance at a prize winning lilac photo!

In my travels on Wed. May 30, 2007, I came across this excellent "photo-op" at Rumney, NH.  Take Rt. 25 to Rumney, go to the Town Common, and take the road North, toward Stinson Lake, about 1/8 mile North of the Common, on the right, you will see the Rumney Grange Hall, and parked outside, this worthy workhorse from the past...  now out to pasture.....

Above photo taken Monday May 28, 2007 at Meredith, NH.  Cupola is on the Mill Falls Marketplace.  There is a splendid lilac by the Lake Winnipesaukee boat launch ramp (shown in this photo).  Go there right away for your possible award winning lilac photo for the NH Lilac Photo Contest.  Good luck.

Where possible, we have researched the site of each photo opportunity. If you get an “Official 2007-2008 New Hampshire Highway Map” (available free at NH state rest stops) you will see the coordinates for each location we have identified.

ON OUR COVER FOR THE MAY/JUNE ISSUE: The overlook at Rattlesnake Mountain: How to get there: Exit 24 off I 93 Ashland, head about 4 miles to the intersection of Rt. 113, just before the bridge between Little and Big Squam Lakes. Go left on Rt. 113 for 5 ½ miles to parking lot on your left. The trail is on the right side of the road. A short hike to one of New Hampshire’s best scenic spots. Map co-ordinates J-7 on NH state map.

HERE ARE MORE SUGGESTIONS FOR TIMES AND PLACES FOR GREAT NH PHOTO-OPS!

In case you missed it..the Lincoln NH Historical Society recently offered a free lecture on a WWII bomber which crashed into a mountain at Lincoln in January, 1942, just a few weeks after Pearl Harbor.  The wreckage is still there on the mountain!  You can make a day hike to the spot, do some photography, and get the material you need for a magazine article.  There is an extensive report on file at the Lincoln and North Woodstock libraries.  You can go there first to do your research.

MAY 9 Littleton NH: Littleton Historical Society will offer a free lecture at 7PM at the Littleton Community House, on the subject of “Willowdale” an abandoned NH community in the Littleton vicinity. Here’s a great opportunity to research this lost town to see if you can locate cellar holes and other historical evidence to photograph! Great item for a magazine article. Littleton is G-6.

MAY 12-13, Hopkinton State Fairgrounds:NH Sheep and Wool Festival, a can’t miss photo-op! details at   www.yankeeshepherd.org   Fairgounds is N-6

MAY 12 to 17  Plymouth  NH  Try the Plymouth Town Common for some excellent material for a truly old fashioned New England Town Common scene, complete with band stand, with surrounding trees in full blossom.  See photo on this site taken May 14 by Don O'Connor.

MAY 19 Manchester: film making class, “Advanced Field Production: Creating a Great Scene”, a class in digital film production. Details at www.digitalfilmakingworkshop.com

MAY 26 Hillsborough: a town wide yard sale… who knows, maybe a super opportunity to pick up some used photo equipment at a good price.. and tons of other stuff that you can justify to yourself that you absolutely need. Got to be photo-ops galore here. Stuff for a newspaper or magazine article. While in Hillsborough, take a look for the many stone bridges in this town, the subject of many photos in the past. Maybe yours will be better! You may want to return later this summer and fall to shoot the bridges in many seasons. See   www.hillsboroughnhchamber.com    Location is O-5

MAY 20    375 Little Harbor Road Portsmouth:  Wentworth-Coolidge Mansion Lilac Festival; lilac photography, and the mansion too.. a great site by the Atlantic Ocean. See www.donoconnor.com on the page NH Photo-Ops for details on the NH 2007 Lilac Photo Contest, open to amateur photographers, with 10 great prizes. See also

www.nhstateparks.org/ParksPages/WentworthCoolidge/WCMLilacFestival07.htm   this site is O-10

MAY 20 New Ipswich:  Barret House open to the public, free, 2:30 to 5PM; free tour of the first floor of this historic home. Also a local parade in town this Day. Historic Home info at 860-928-0474 Nore: there may be a restriction on taking inside photos, but exterior and garden photos are allowed…check first. Q-5

MAY 23 at Plymouth  NH:   This entry made on Wed. May 23, 2007.  Lilacs at Plymouth NH are just about at peak if you want photos for the NH Lilac Photo Contest!  Don't wait until this weekend to get your shots.  Today and Thursday should be ideal.  Plymouth is exit 25 off I-93.  Try shots on the Town Common and the Historic Society Building behind the Town Hall, on Court Street.  Many lilacs behind the Town Library, just at end of parking lot too.  Good luck!

MAY 26 to 28 North Conway Community Center:  Memorial Day Weekend Craft Show; a place for you to show and sell!   www.joycescraftshows.com   While there, a great photo-op at the restored rail station and trains in town. Good material for magazine copy. You can return here many times a year, including winter scenes of trains! I-9

MAY-JUNE-JULY   Meredith, NH   “Meredith in Bloom” Mill Falls and Church Landing and Town Docks areas are ablaze with colors of flowers of all kinds. Truly exceptional and worth your time and effort to take the drive. Terrific photo-ops of Lake Winni with flowers in foreground of your scenes. You will see examples of these in the July edition of NH Photo-Ops online. Try a shoot of the town docks now, with flowers, and come again in mid Winter to see the colorful ice fishing bob-houses. You will have a magazine article in the making there for sure!   www.millfalls.com     K-7

JUNE 2 NEWPORT NH    9 TO 5 “Reliving New Hampshire’s Past”; Fritz Wetherbee will be here from 10 to noon. Historical re-enactments. JUNE 7 Tilton, NH   New Hampshire Film and Television Office to hold Filmmakers Roundtable,   presented by the New Hampshire Film and Television Office. (Concord, NH) - The next New Hampshire Filmmaker Roundtable, presented by the New Hampshire Film and Television Office, will take place on Thursday, June 7 from 12-3 p.m. at the Granite Media Center, 100 Autumn Drive in Tilton.

In addition to an update from the New Hampshire Film and Television Office, there will be a discussion focusing on synergy within New Hampshire's film and television industry. The industry is growing, and as we discover more and more production crew and services in the state, synergy and cooperation within New Hampshire's film and television industry becomes a vital part of its infrastructure - and the cornerstone to promoting New Hampshire as a film-friendly destination.

Industry professionals are invited to attend this networking event and tour the Granite Media Center, the new production facility in Tilton, New Hampshire. From a screening room with state of the art digital projection to office suites housing composers, photographers and other production personnel; from acres of camera-ready land outside to a clear span big box inside, the Granite Media Center is a place where multiple facets of production can come together - to work together.

"These roundtables are a great opportunity for New Hampshire's film and television industry to connect not only with the film office but with each other," says Van McLeod, Commissioner of the Department of Cultural Resources.

"It's fitting that we hold our next roundtable at the Granite Media Center," says Matthew Newton, Film Specialist managing the New Hampshire Film and Television Office. "This gives us a chance to meet face-to-face with members of our industry and provide them with first-hand information in a setting that is all about fostering synergy between filmmakers and other production services."

The New Hampshire Filmmaker Roundtable is a lunch-hour gathering of the state's film industry professionals, amateurs and students. Attendees are encouraged to come B.Y.O.L. (Bring Your Own Lunch!) If members of New Hampshire's film industry are interested in attending, please RSVP by Monday, June 4 via e-mail at film@nh.gov or by calling (603) 271-2220.

For directions to the Granite Media Center, visit www.gmcnh.com.

The New Hampshire Film and Television Office, as part of the New Hampshire Department of Cultural Resources, works to expand business activity and employment throughout the state by acting as a liaison between the film industry and an established network of government agencies, the state's film industry workforce, and local property owners. The office is responsible for location assistance, public relations, and general production support in an effort to broaden the cultural and economic impact of film and television production in the state. For more information about film and television production in New Hampshire, call (603) 271-2220 or visit www.nh.gov/film.

What’s on sale?      Includes auctions of photo stuff

Hey, we all love a bargain! Let’s keep an eye out for sales of interest to photographers. For example, picture frames. To buy them “right” at the lowest cost for resale, you may have to buy a case lot of two zillion.   If you don’t exactly need a zillion, but you may want 2 or 3 at a time, you may be just as well off to go to a retailer and buy frames when they go on sale. We will watch for those events, and will share them with you. If we learn of a supplier with a “deal” you’ll see it here. Also, for a small fee, suppliers may advertise in this ever-so-humble publication!

Blah-Blah-blah blah

Everything else we haven’t thought of in any category above. Got a funny photo? Maybe we’ll print it. We all need a laugh.

                    the goals of this newsletter:

A: Identify times and locations in New Hampshire where landscape and special events offer opportunities for photographers, amateur and professional alike, to capture moments on film to “show off” this very special State we all call home. Your objectives may be many, to sell your photos, to build a personal collection, even to contribute to your local historical society as a resource for future generations to see New Hampshire as we saw it. We’ll give you exact locations to shoot the best photos, even the time of day when possible!

B: Share information on clubs and events of interest to photographers, videographers, filmmakers and all who practice film or graphic arts.

C: An informal place to buy and sell used photographic equipment.

D: SHOW TIME!   Dates and places of shows and exhibitions for and by photographers. You are invited to list time and place of yours!

E: Yes, we are REALTORS®, and make a living in real estate. This newsletter will showcase properties that uniquely lend themselves as homes or business locations for photographers. We are not in this niche market by accident. As photographers, and understanding the details of what makes a property well suited for this kind of work, we have sold several homes and business locations of this type. If you want to sell your photography studio, we are the specialists for you.

*** Future editions will feature a New Hampshire photo that typifies the style and environment that we all enjoy here in the Granite State.
